Annual Pancake breakfast

For 22 years the members of the Lawton Firefighters Association Inc. have flipped pancakes and served breakfast foods for their only fundraiser of the year.

Anywhere between 750 to 900 people are served annually. The association donates this money back into the department through the purchasing of equipment, making this the largest annual fundraiser for the department. The breakfast is a great chance to check out all of the Lawton Community Fire Department apparatuses and equipment, as well as a firsthand look inside our station.

Our goal is to serve over 1,000 people in 2021!

The 2021 Pancake Breakfast will take place on Saturday, September 18th, 2021.

Fire prevention week

Every October the Lawton Community Fire Department teams up with Bronson Fire Department in Lawton and Bronson to educate the youth at the Lawton-Bronson Elementary School and Jr. Sr. High School about fire safety. The firefighters promote good habits and demonstrate the equipment to the students.

“Since 1922, the NFPA has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country. During Fire Prevention Week, children, adults, and teachers learn how to stay safe in case of a fire. Firefighters provide lifesaving public education in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires.

Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, and caused devastating damage. This horrific conflagration killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures, and burned more than 2,000 acres of land.”

Meetings and trainings

Once a month, the members of the department gather in the station to hold their monthly meetings.

Trainings are typically held on the last Wednesday of the month, with extra trainings frequently offered throughout the year. According to state of Iowa law, volunteer firefighters must complete at least 24 hours of training a year, and many members of the Lawton Fire Community Department go above and beyond this total.
